Beautiful Souls

Summer 1996. The perpetually youthful day laborer Freddy drifts from one odd job to the next. When the spontaneous opportunity arises to leave his uncomfortable life in Germany behind, he ends up in a holiday resort on the Costa Brava. His old friend Johannes, who runs a car rental business there, gets him a job with Herbert, a nightclub owner with a reputation for taking in society’s human flotsam. At first, Freddy genuinely believes he has found paradise. But before the season is over, he becomes the focal point of the grotesque collapse of the community of dropouts. A fool’s drama set against the pop-trash aesthetic of the 1990s.
