Why do Iranian security forces target the eyes of protesters and thus their eyesight? BLIND, IN THE EYE examines this targeted violence during the 2022-23 protests in Iran and highlights the powerful role of images in a political context. The film shows the editing process in which the authors blend subjective and objective narratives.
The deliberate shooting of protesters in the eyes during the 2022-23 protests in Iran points to a particularly perfidious systematic oppression. A duo of Iranian filmmakers in exile in Berlin takes this as their starting point and asks the question: ‘What happens when security forces target vision itself?’ On this basis, they reconstruct narratives from images taken during the protests on social media. The film presents the search in the montage process, in which the filmmakers combine their distanced, subjective narrative with the images of the protests to examine the power of the images of the protests as a political construct.
